What Is A Waste Audit?

Want to save on business costs while you save the environment? Waste minimisation is the way to go. We can help you work out your waste problems at no cost to members.

What in the World is a Waste Audit?

Waste audits are a method of measuring and recording the waste your business produces. It tracks the types and amount of waste you throw away, as well as its sources. Knowing where your waste comes from helps you better plan what your business needs, be more sustainable, and reduce overhead costs associated with storage of wasted food and disposal costs.

How Does a Waste Audit Work?

  1. Choose a timeframe: 1 day, 3 days, 1 week.
  2. Separate food waste into 4 categories: plate waste, prep waste, spoiled food, and surplus food
  3. Observe what you’re throwing away throughout the day.
  4. Weigh and record: write how much waste your business produced in each category at the end of the day.
  5. Plan solutions to poke out your pain points: our program managers can help you develop 2-3 quick fixes that can help you start wasting less food.
  6. Review to keep your business on track.

Sustainability superstars continue tracking their waste alongside their financial data, to develop win-win solutions.
